As of 2024, Babak Fotouhi is an Adjunct Assistant Research Professor Babak at University of Maryland College of Information Studies. Babak did his undergraduate and graduate studies in physics and electrical engineering. During his graduate studies, he realized he is also interested in human-related problems. He chose the mathematics of social networks as the topic of his dissertation. He additionally obtained a degree in sociology to balance the social-theoretical side of his research portfolio with the mathematical side. After being a JSMF postdoc at Harvard's Program for Evolutionary Dynamics, working on human cooperation on social networks, he joined HNL. In addition to the relation between social networks and behavior, his research interests include the computational study of historical evolution of ideological and cultural ethos, and the social construction of unquestioned assumptions.
