As of 2024, Akihiro Nishi, MD, DrPH, is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Before he joined UCLA, he was a doctoral student (2012-2013), a postdoctoral fellow (2013-2015), and an Associate Research Scientist (2015-2016) at the Human Nature Lab (both at Harvard University and Yale University). Akihiro holds a medical degree from the University of Tokyo and a doctor of public health degree from Harvard University.

Akihiro studies both the relationship between the genome and human behaviors, and the relationship between social settings and human behaviors at online social networks. He is broadly interested in social epidemiology, heath-related behavior, evolutionary biology, and network science. His research has been featured in media outlets worldwide, including PBS NewsHour, CBS News, NPR, and Nikkei Shimbun.
