Yunkyu Sohn is a PhD candidate in political science at UCSD. He received a BA in philosophy and BS in physics from Seoul National University in 2007 and an MS in computational neuroscience from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 2008. He came to US to start his PhD program in 2009. He sees any biological, social, or market system as a distributed information processing system that is hierarchically modular and governed by the law of natural selection.

As a political scientist, he is interested in applying this perspective to understanding the role of human cognitive traits and institutional settings on democratic processes and outcomes by using economic modeling, behavioral experiments, and large-scale data analysis (at the same time, striving to incorporate the language of political scientists). He is a fan of MAX/MSP and has been playing electric guitars and laptops in several bands.
